In jüngster Zeit hat nanokristallines Ceriumdioxid (CeO2) aufgrund seiner fluoritartigen Struktur, seiner bemerkenswerten Redoxeigenschaften und seiner großen Kapazität zur Speicherung und Freisetzung von Sauerstoff (OSC) durch einen oberflächlichen Wechsel zwischen dem Ce4+-Zustand und dem Ce3+-Oxidationszustand großes Interesse geweckt. Die CeO2-Materialien haben ein breites Anwendungsspektrum, darunter Katalysatoren, Solarzellen, UV-Sperrfilter, Gassensoren usw. In nanokristallinem CeO2 führen Sauerstofflücken zur Sauerstoffleitung. Vor allem die Kontrolle der Morphologie und der Kristallitgröße über die Eigenschaften von Ceroxid ist von großer Bedeutung, da Korngrenzenreaktionen und eine erhebliche Verarmung an Ladungsträgern in anisotropen Nanosystemen die Redox-/Transporteigenschaften effektiv verändern können. Die nicht stöchiometrische Natur von CeO2 ist in nanokristalliner Form aufgrund des verbesserten Verhältnisses von Oberfläche zu Volumen stärker ausgeprägt, was zu einer Verringerung der Bildungsenergie von Sauerstoffleerstellen führt. Zirkoniumdioxid (ZrO2) ist ein n-Typ-Halbleiter mit einer Bandlücke von ∼ 5,0 eV und wird häufig als Rohstoff für Textilien, Kosmetika, Keramiken, Festoxid-Brennstoffzellenelektrolyte, Gassensoren und optische Geräte verwendet.
