Konzipiert als studienorientierte Einführung, richtet sich der 'Grundkurs Politikwissenschaft: Studium der politischen Systeme' in erster Linie an die Zielgruppe der Studienanfänger. Auf der Grundlage eines politikwissenschaftlichen Systemmodells werden alle wichtigen Bereiche eines politischen Systems dargestellt. Dabei orientiert sich die Gliederung der einzelnen Punkte an folgenden didaktisch aufbereiteten Kriterien: Definition der zentralen Begriffe, Funktionen der Strukturprinzipen und der Akteure, Variablen zu deren Typologisierung, Ausgewählte Problemfelder, Entwicklungstendenzen, Stellung im politischen System, Kontrollfragen, Informationshinweise zur Einführung (kurz kommentierte Einführungsliteratur, Fachzeitschriften, Internet-Adressen). Im Anhang werden die wichtigsten Begriffe in einem Glossar zusammengestellt. Ein Sach- und Personenregister sowie ein ausführliches allgemeines Literaturverzeichnis runden das Werk ab.
