Badanie pomoże zrozumieć wpływ i skutki gruźlicy płuc (PTB) na dorosłych zakażonych wirusem HIV w Zambii oraz stopień, w jakim wpływa ona na funkcje neurokognitywne. Badanie pomoże również w określeniu implikacji dla leczenia, przestrzegania zaleceń i stosowania leków antyretrowirusowych przenikających do OUN, schematów leczenia przeciwgruźliczego, programów rehabilitacyjnych, zastępstw kadrowych w pracy i opiece. Pomoże to lekarzom w określeniu, kiedy należy rozpocząć leczenie, aby chronić OUN przed uszkodzeniami i promować utrzymanie jakości życia/wydajności przez całe życie. Wyniki sugerują, że PTB ma wpływ na wszystkie siedem obszarów z wyjątkiem obszaru motorycznego.
