Originally published in 1911 PREFACE: This work was prepared as a part of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, in connection with the department of Anthropology in Yale University. The effort was made to secure for it the merit which attaches to a scientific production, and in so far as this effort has been successful it is in large measure due to the scholarly atmosphere in which the work was done. This early works is a comprehensive and informative look at the subject of Emigration and its effects on both the environment and the Immigrants with much of the information still useful and practical today. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900’s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
