It is also the sister work of Professor Lu Ming’s previous work'' Big Country, Big City ''. After explaining to the public the law of regional economic development ''moving towards balance in agglomeration'' in ''Big Country and Big City'', the author combines the latest academic research and survey results in recent years, combined with the situation presented by big data, to illustrate the development law within cities, that is, as the proportion of service industry in GDP and employment increases with economic development; Under the logic of ''economies of scale'', urban development presents a pattern of ''people gathering from rural areas to cities, from small cities to big cities, and from the outskirts of cities to the central urban areas''. This book also introduces the concept of ''spatial balance'', starting from the three goals pursued by urban development: ''vitality, livability,'' and ''harmony.'' It discusses how to follow the universal laws and trends shaped by ''centripetal force'' in planning and selection at the national, regional, urban-rural, urban and suburban levels.In this book, the author emphasizes that many aspects of urban governance have economies of scale, so high population density may not necessarily be the root cause of urban governance problems, but rather a way out to solve urban problems such as congestion and pollution.
