Graphite intercalation compounds are a new class ofelectronic materials that are classified as graphite-basedhost guest systems. They have specific structural featuresbased on the alternating stacking of graphite and guestintercalate sheets. The electronic structures showtwo-dimensional metallic properties with a large variety offeatures including superconductivity. They are alsointeresting from the point of two-dimensional magneticsystems. This book presents the synthesis, crystalstructures, phase transitions, lattice dynamics, electronicstructures, electron transport properties, magneticproperties, surface phenomena, and applications of graphiteintercalation compounds. The applications covered includebatteries, highly conductive graphite fibers, exfoliatedgraphite and intercalated fullerenes and nanotubes.
