About the AuthorsDustin Daugherty, MSW, LISW attended the University of Northern Iowa for his Master of Arts Degree in Social Psychology. Mr. Daugherty was highly involved in research and co-published 4 professional articles. He then worked as an in-home therapist, providing services to children and families involved with the Iowa Department of Human Services Mr. Daugherty earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa.  He then worked as an in-home therapist/remedial service provider and co-facilitated an adolescent anger management group. He became a clinical social worker for Child Guidance Center for 2 years before starting his own private practice.Gladys Noll Alvarez, MSW, LISW is the Trauma Informed Care Project Coordinator at Orchard Place/ Child Guidance Center. She earned her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Iowa and has been engaged in 2 year-long learning collaboratives through the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.  Ms. Alvarez is a member of the following initiatives: C.A.N. Prevention Council, Professional Consultation Team, Steering Committee for the Regional Child Protection Center, Model Court Team in Polk County, Court Improvement Task Force in 2005/2006, Zero to Three Safe Babies Court Team in Polk County, and a Charter Board Member of Shalom Zone Ministries from 1997-2005. She is an active member of United Methodist Women and her church, focusing on children’s issues. Ms. Alvarez is the recipient of many awards: the Al Schulte Award in 2000, the 'Voice for Children' award in 2008, and the Michele A. Moore Award of Distinction in 2011.Illustrator: Marcia Bradley, MA has been employed in Des Moines, Iowa as an art therapist for the last 17 years. She is a talented artist and uses those skills in helping children and their families. 3
