In endodontic retreatment, the removal of gutta-percha (GP) is a critical step to ensure the success of the procedure. GP is the most commonly used root canal filling material; however in cases of endodontic failure, its presence in the canal can harbor bacteria and impede the effectiveness of subsequent disinfection and obturation efforts. In conclusion, effective removal of gutta-percha is essential in endodontic retreatment to eliminate infection, facilitate re-obturation, prevent complications, and improve treatment outcomes.
