Gouverner l’inconnu est une question récurrente qui hante tant l’empire que les auteurs postcoloniaux sous la forme comment ou pourquoi gouverner ? ou pourquoi sommes-nous gouvernés ? . Le gouvernement occupe le devant de la scène dans le projet de l’empire, même lorsqu’il prétend comprendre. Un comportement similaire de la part de l’empire actuel rend cette question d’autant plus pertinente. Cet ouvrage cherche à aborder les questions ci-dessus et contribue ainsi à la compréhension de l’interprétation postcoloniale d’Edmund Burke. Il cherche à développer la pertinence contemporaine de Burke ainsi qu’à étendre les études postcoloniales à la théorie politique. Le livre peut également être utilisé pour comprendre la pensée conservatrice et comme introduction à la philosophie politique de Burke.
