Glenarvon is a Gothic novel written by Caroline Lamb and published in 1816. The novel follows the story of Lady Calantha, a young and beautiful woman who falls in love with the charming and seductive Lord Glenarvon. Despite warnings from her friends and family, Lady Calantha becomes deeply involved with Lord Glenarvon and embarks on a tumultuous and dangerous affair with him. As their relationship becomes more intense, Lady Calantha begins to lose her sense of self and is consumed by her passion for Lord Glenarvon. She becomes increasingly isolated from her friends and family and begins to spiral out of control. The novel is set against the backdrop of the Regency era and explores the themes of love, passion, and betrayal. It also touches on issues of gender and power, as Lady Calantha struggles to assert herself in a society that values men above women. Glenarvon is considered to be one of the earliest examples of the Gothic genre in English literature and is known for its vivid descriptions of the supernatural and the macabre. It is also notable for its scandalous portrayal of Lord Byron, who was rumored to be the inspiration for the character of Lord Glenarvon. Overall, Glenarvon is a gripping and atmospheric novel that explores the darker side of love and desire. It is a must-read for fans of Gothic literature and anyone interested in the history of English literature. The morning sun, when it arose, shone bright and brilliant upon the valley of Altamonte--its gay castle, and its lake. But a threatening cloud obscured the sky, as Camioli raised his eyes and turned them mournfully upon the ruined priory of St. Alvin, and the deserted halls of Belfont.-- ''Woe to the house of Glenarvon!'' he said. ''Woe to the house of my patron and benefactor! Desolation and sorrow have fallen upon the mighty. Mourn for the hero who is slain in battle. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
