Waris Alvi (1928_2014) had authored 24 books. He was 21st Century’s top three Urdu literary critics in the country, the other two being Dr Shamsur Rahman Faruqi and Dr Gopichand Narang. Waris Alvi contributed to Urdu language and literature as distinguished critic, researcher and a professor. He is counted among very few Urdu critics who presented his original analysis without any care for personal relations or career growth. Waris Alvi is a renowned critic of Urdu literature. He is known for his critical writings on fiction, fiction writers and fiction critics. He would often term his style as ’creative criticism’ (takhliqi tanqeed).
