The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Under the Progressive Movement, many women contributed to Urdu literature, but Rasheed Jahan holds the distinction of being the first. She was not only the first female short story writer in Urdu literature but also raised her voice against conservatism. Rasheed Jahan tackled societal customs, caste issues, the complexities between generations, and especially the psychological challenges and life problems of middle and lower-class Muslim women in her stories. Her writings inspire women to claim their rightful place and encourage them to bravely face societal challenges./ترقی پسند تحریک کے دوران بہت سی خواتین نے اردو ادب کو فروغ دیا، لیکن اس میدان میں سب سے پہلا قدم رشید جہاں نے رکھا۔ وہ اردو کی پہلی خاتون افسانہ نگار تھیں۔ رشید جہاں نے نہ صرف کہانی لکھنے کا آغاز کیا بلکہ وہ قدامت پسندی کے خلاف بھی آواز اٹھائیں۔ انہوں نے سماجی رسموں، ذات پات کے مسائل، نئی اور پرانی نسلوں کے درمیان اختلافات اور خاص طور پر متوسط اور نچلے طبقے کی مسلمان خواتین کی نفسیاتی پیچیدگیوں اور ان کی زندگی سے جڑے مسائل کو اپنے افسانوں میں بیان کیا۔ ان کی کہانیوں سے عورتوں کو حوصلہ ملتا ہے کہ وہ اپنے حقوق کے لئے کھڑی ہوں اور سماج کی مشکلات کا سامنا کریں۔
