Tony, trying to regroup in the aftermath of his ex-wife’s mysterious illness and suicide attempts (in which he was implicated), has started to settle his mind in a Buddhist meditation practice, only to begin a string of visions of a past life as a Union soldier in Maryland in 1862. Clara’s appearance is the last straw; he decides to go to the battlefield to bury the past, both from this life and an earlier one. There he finds a lot more than he bargained for, lessons in life, love and war. This is a novel with real life roots that intertwines history, healing, and the trials and tribulations of a spiritual quest. It is about how you deal with tragedy, guilt, anger - and responsibility.
