Il lavoro in questione è stato progettato per analizzare la struttura politico-istituzionale della gestione ambientale municipale nei comuni dello Stato del Mato Grosso do Sul, individuando l’esistenza di segreterie e fondazioni, nonché i bilanci messi a disposizione e le azioni di politica ambientale sostenute dalle località. È stato utilizzato un questionario semi-strutturato con domande chiuse per raccogliere dati e informazioni sulle pratiche ambientali nelle diverse località oggetto dello studio per un periodo di un anno, tra il 2013 e il 2014. Dopo aver tabulato i risultati, le informazioni sono state interpretate qualitativamente, cercando di descrivere ed esplorare l’argomento per aumentare la quantità di conoscenza generata sui temi trattati. Dopo aver analizzato i risultati, si è giunti alla conclusione che le strutture politiche e istituzionali presenti negli Stati del Mato Grosso do Sul devono ancora essere sviluppate affinché la gestione ambientale municipale possa ottenere significativi guadagni in termini di efficienza, tenendo presente che molti Comuni non dispongono nemmeno di apparati ben definiti.
