Genesis Amidst the Chaos

A one-year, chapter-by-chapter devotional journey through all fifty chapters of Genesis. While caring for a terminally ill son and searching for God in the wreckage of the life he’d planned, Josh Wood forced himself to marinate in the book of Genesis - one chapter at a time, one week at a time. What he found surprised him. Not easy answers. Something better: a God who has always shown up in the middle of the mess, told his story through broken and ordinary people, and refused to let the chaos have the last word.Genesis: Amidst the Chaos is an honest, funny, and theologically curious Genesis Bible study and devotional written from inside the storm rather than safely from the other side of it. It is not a seminary textbook. It is not a dry commentary. It is one man’s account of what happens when you actually need the Bible - and what you find when you go looking. What makes this devotional different:Written by a layman, not a theologian. Josh Wood is a guy from Amarillo, Texas, who loves Genesis, loves Jesus, loves picking things apart, and spent the better part of a year writing these chapters in the margins of a life dominated by caring for a terminally ill teenage son. You’ll find humor here. You’ll find tangents. You’ll find science, history, pop culture, and at least one passive-aggressive letter from a neighbor. What you won’t find is a dry, exhaustive commentary. This isn’t that book.Covers all fifty chapters of Genesis - from creation and the fall, to Noah and the flood, to Abraham’s covenant, to Joseph’s remarkable story of betrayal, imprisonment, and redemption. Every major narrative in Genesis is explored with fresh eyes, personal honesty, and a deep respect for the text. The AMP framework closes each weekly chapter with three practical prompts:Apply - A specific, actionable step to take during the week based on what you just read.Meditate - A honest, sometimes uncomfortable question designed to move the study from your head to your heart.Pray - A focused prayer prompt tied directly to the week’s theme.Perfect for:Individual daily devotional readingSmall group Bible studySunday school curriculumNew believers exploring the Old Testament for the first timeLongtime Christians ready to revisit Genesis with fresh eyesWhether you’re walking through your own chaos or simply hungry for a Genesis study that doesn’t read like a textbook, this book was written for you.Genesis has been meeting people in the middle of their chaos for thousands of years. It met Josh there too.
