Gender and Tourism: Understanding Male and FemaleTourist Behavior, is an in-depth comparative studyidentifying the preferences, participation, dutiesand responsibilities of male and female tourists. Theresearch has investigated the gender roles oftourists and gendered consumer-decision making invacation decisions. A comparative sample of Indianand Foreign male and female tourists has helped toidentify if cultural differences and gender status insociety effects travel choices and behaviour. Thestudy also explores assumptions and perceptionsrelated to use of gender images in tourism marketing. The work demonstrates that incontemporary times males and females participateequally in decision making for travel and jointlyundertake responsibilities in travel planning. However, gender is a detrimental factor that accountsfor differences between males and females inpreference for different forms of tourism andparticipation in different kinds of tourismactivities. It is anticipated that the findings ofthis work will appeal to both researchers andpractitioners of tourism who are interested inunderstanding the gender segments of the tourism market.
