From 1887 until 1970, African American (Black) Students in LeeCounty were educated separately. Lee County Florida during this era wastypical of the public school systems throughout the South. Black studentsattended school in a variety of facilities that included but were not limitedto churches, houses, private homes and eventually their own buildings.Therefore, principals and teachers of color played a significant role in thelives of the black children living in Lee County and the surrounding areas.This compilation serves as a tribute to Black Educators who travailedduring this segregated period of history.
