Frankenstein de Mary Shelley raconte l’histoire de Victor Frankenstein, un savant genevois qui, obsédé par le secret de la vie, parvient à animer une créature assemblée à partir de restes humains. Horrifié par la laideur et l’aspect monstrueux de son œuvre, Victor l’abandonne aussitôt, condamnant l’être à une solitude absolue. Bien que la créature soit initialement dotée de sensibilité et d’une soif d’apprendre, le rejet systématique et violent de la société la transforme en un monstre vengeur qui entreprend d’éliminer les proches de son créateur pour le punir de son irresponsabilité. Cette quête de vengeance mène les deux protagonistes dans une traque tragique jusqu’aux glaces de l’Arctique, illustrant ainsi les dangers d’une science sans éthique et les conséquences dévastatrices de l’exclusion sociale.
