In diesem Band wird der Zusammenhang von Literatur und philosophischer Theorie in den zwischen 1961 und 1967 veröffentlichten Schriften Foucaults untersucht. Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt nicht allein auf der Bedeutung der Diskursanalyse als literaturwissenschaftlich relevantem Verfahren, sondern auf der Frage nach den Gestalten, in denen die Literatur in Foucaults eigenes Werk Eingang gefunden hat. Am Beispiel u. a. von Racine, Mallarmé, Blanchot und Bataille wird dargelegt, inwiefern die Literatur in der Funktion eines Gegendiskurses als Vorbild für Foucaults Subjektkritik gelten kann. Dabei zeigt die Arbeit, daß die Literatur auch als Gegendiskurs zur Diskursanalyse verstanden werden kann.
