L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è quello di intraprendere uno studio storico per ampliare le conoscenze basate sulla proposta di indagine sulla formazione dello Stato nazionale dal punto di vista del giurista e politico del Piauí Antônio Coelho Rodrigues, dimostrando come sia possibile vedere la formazione della Repubblica da un’altra angolazione e comprendere che il progetto di Repubblica idealizzato dai positivisti non era pienamente costituito in Brasile alla fine del XIX secolo. In questo modo, la nostra proposta è di guardare oltre le trasformazioni ideologiche, economiche e sociali avvenute in Brasile alla fine del XIX secolo, alle concezioni di Coelho Rodrigues sul Brasile repubblicano. In questo contesto, sottolineiamo l’importanza della Storia politica come punto di partenza della nostra riflessione.
