'Foluke: The Afro Queen' is a beautifully illustrated picture book about an adorable Black girl named Foluke getting her hair styled in various ways by her family members. Foluke wears many different hairstyles, including Afro puffs, cornrows, and twists. But of all the hairstyles she wears, her favorite is the Afro. In this charming little book, we follow Foluke as her mother, her father, and her aunt style her hair. Their daily use of traditional African American combing, brushing and braiding techniques helps Foluke to develop pride in her natural hair. We also watch Foluke as she takes a bath and plays with her baby sister, Dayo. This delightful book provides a fun and positive depiction of African American family life and shows the importance of hair styles in African American culture.
