This story begins in the mountains of North Carolina during the 1850s. June Lowen, an independent girl, must learn to become a submissive young woman as her father holds to old traditions of arranged marriages. Her freedom seems to come to an abrupt end when her childhood friend Dusty Hill becomes her husband. As they journey westward with the last of the wagon trains, the couple must learn to grow in love and faith amidst trials and find the true definition of freedom together amid the wild frontier.
