Cet ouvrage explore l’impact des pratiques rituelles sur le trouble obsessionnel-compulsif (TOC) et le trouble de la personnalité anankastique (TPA) chez les Jaïns et les non-Jaïns. Soixante participants indiens (30 par groupe), âgés de plus de 18 ans, ont été étudiés selon un plan d’étude transversal comparatif et un échantillonnage raisonné. Les participants Jaïns (âge moyen : 32,63 ans) étaient majoritairement des professionnels vivant en famille, tandis que les non-Jaïns (âge moyen : 32,00 ans) étaient principalement des étudiants, révélant ainsi des différences significatives en termes de profession et de mode de vie. Les Jaïns ont obtenu des scores plus élevés en névrosisme, probablement en raison de normes religieuses strictes et de liens communautaires étroits, tandis que les non-Jaïns ont montré une plus grande extraversion. Les Jaïns étaient significativement plus religieux, une pratique influencée par les enseignements reçus dès l’enfance et le soutien de leur communauté. Bien que la prévalence du TPA et du TOC ne diffère pas significativement, la religiosité était positivement corrélée aux traits du TPA et aux symptômes du TOC, en particulier aux dimensions d’intellectualisation et de pratique publique et privée.
