Application of the laws of force and motion to fluids is what fluid mechanics deals with. It has two main branches fluid statics and fluid dynamics. Fluid statics studies fluids at rest while fluid dynamics focuses on fluids in motion. It is applied to the areas such as industrial gas supply, designing of a hydro power plant, even water supply of a household. It is an active field of research, because of many problems that are fully or partially unresolved.
