Passados quase dois séculos das reflexões de Auguste Comte sobre a filosofia química, realizadas em 1835 e dispostas no Terceiro Volume do Curso de Filosofia Positiva, que trata das ciências da natureza, elas continuaram até hoje inéditas para o público lusófono em geral. Esta versão domesticada para o português brasileiro se destina a suprir tal lacuna, revisitando o ânimo da pesquisa por filosofia química, exposto entre as lições 35ª e 39ª do gigantesco sistema filosófico produzido pelo pensador de Montpellier. Procuramos, na medida do possível, manter a paginação original, conforme publicada na terceira edição, de 1869, além de intercalar o texto em francês com a tradução para facilitar a leitura comparativa, assim como esclarecemos algumas das opções de tradução mais discutíveis.
