En los cuatro ensayos que constituyen este libro se presenta un panorama general del desarrollo de la ética analítica a lo largo del siglo XX. La ética analítica investiga el significado y las propiedades lógicas de los conceptos éticos fundamentales: bueno, malo, mejor, peor, debido, obligatorio, correcto e incorrecto. Mediante esta estrategia se intenta responder a problemas clásicos sobre la naturaleza de la ética. ¿Tienen los valores éticos una existencia objetiva e independiente de la mente humana o son solo el reflejo de nuestros anhelos e inclinaciones privadas? ¿Podemos probar qué cosas son efectivamente buenas, malas e indiferentes para la vida humana? ¿Estamos en la capacidad de resolver complejos dilemas que ponen en cuestión nuestras convicciones éticas más elementales? ¿Cómo está relacionada la ética con la racionalidad? En este trabajo se examinan las principales teorías al respecto y se les somete a un detenido examen crítico. El resultado es una interesante reflexión que puede servir como introducción a los problemas y controversias de la filosofía moral contemporánea. 10
