In Fil 2,6-11, altrimenti noto come inno di Filippesi, sono state individuate almeno due principali cristologie. Un gruppo di studiosi biblici sostiene la cristologia di un essere divino preesistente che aveva piena uguaglianza con Dio fin dall’eternità. Si parla spesso di cristologia della 'preesistenza'. Un secondo gruppo di biblisti sostiene che in Fil 2,6-11 Paolo non stia descrivendo un essere divino preesistente, ma piuttosto il Gesù terreno di Nazareth. Questi studiosi interpretano generalmente la pericope come un’espressione della cristologia del 'secondo Adamo'. Il fatto che Paolo intendesse che Fil 2,6-11 avesse uno scopo etico o soteriologico, una cristologia della preesistenza o una cristologia del Secondo Adamo, dipende in larga misura dall’interpretazione di un piccolo numero di parole greche contenute nel testo. Poiché queste parole possono avere un’ampia gamma di significati, le varie interpretazioni dell’inno di Filippesi sono fortemente dibattute. Questo libro mette a confronto le interpretazioni di tre studiosi moderni e di uno studioso antico.
