Filbert Nutberry’s Grand Christmas Adventure by Michael Connelly is a children’s story about a squirrel from the Pacific Northwest who takes a very unexpected, but fantastic journey all the way across the United States. Along the way, he meets wonderful people while visiting places he never knew existed and experiencing things he’d never dreamed he could. Filbert’s journey not only bonds him with the person who becomes one of his dearest friends, truck driver Dusty Wheeler, but it also ultimately lands him in Washington, DC, where his presence turns out to be a fortunate turn of events for everyone there. In the end, what Filbert wants most is for his adventure to end so he can return to his wife and children in Washington State. For readers of this book however, his adventure is one parents can take with their children over and over again. All the while, children will learn names, locations, and interesting facts about different US states along with other bits of information on culture, history, and the Christmas holiday. This book about the big adventure of a little squirrel has readers both laughing out loud and tearing up, and it is sure to become a holiday or year-round favorite for your family.
