Ziel: Es sollte festgestellt werden, ob es einen Zusammenhang zwischen Fettleibigkeit und Depression bei Jugendlichen gibt. Methode: Die Studie wurde als Korrelations- und Querschnittsstudie angelegt. Die Grundgesamtheit der Studie bestand aus 60 Jugendlichen mit einem BMI von dreißig oder mehr, was auf ein gewisses Maß an Adipositas hinweist. Das verwendete Instrument war das Beck Depression Inventory (zweite Auflage), der BDI-II. Die Adipositas-Variable wurde gemäß den WHO-Richtlinien klassifiziert. Ergebnisse: Was den Grad der Depression betrifft, so befanden sich 68,3 % der Teilnehmer im normalen Bereich, 20,0 % hatten eine leichte Stimmungsstörung, 10,0 % eine mittelschwere Depression und nur 1,7 % wurden als extrem depressiv eingestuft. Was die Fettleibigkeit betrifft, so gehören 66,7 % der Teilnehmer der Klasse 1 an, 25,0 % der Klasse 2, 6,7 % der Klasse 3 und nur 1,7 % der Klasse 4, die am höchsten ist. Bei der Anwendung des Spearman-Korrelationstests auf die erhaltenen Daten wurde kein statistisch signifikanter Zusammenhang zwischen den Variablen Fettleibigkeit und Depression festgestellt.
