A frail wind swept across the field, lifting the skirt of a small girl, which she adjusted swiftly. She slept there with her head on a small summit near the bank of the stream. Due to unforeseen weather, the level of water was low, making it easy for any wild creatures to cross the stream and probably harm her. This was too sudden for Gouri. She had never ever imagined her being separated from her brother, even in her wildest dreams. Gouri and her brother were born and raised in this village. They had never left the village. Gouri cried out and left the house. Kishan tried to stop her. But, as he was ready to leave through the main door, his mother stopped her.
