O conteúdo deste livro situa-se no campo das relações entre família e serviços substitutivos em saúde mental frente às responsabilidades de cuidado com as pessoas em sofrimento psíquico, no contexto da Reforma Psiquiátrica Brasileira. O objetivo deste trabalho é o de compreender os conflitos gerados pelas expectativas dos familiares referentes aos cuidados prestados aos seus parentes em sofrimento psíquico pelo CAPS, bem como a contrapartida familiar esperada pelo serviço na efetivação desse cuidado. O trabalho combina procedimentos metodológicos de caráter investigativo-documental associado à revisão de literatura, tendo como referencial teórico básico a reflexão crítica de Michel Foucault acerca das instituições psiquiátricas e suas relações com a família.
