Esta direção pode ajudar-nos ou atrapalhar-nos na nossa busca de ajuda e compreensão. A adição da vitimização sexual torna essas buscas ainda mais difíceis. A violência sexual não afecta apenas as histórias da vítima e do agressor, mas também a comunidade em geral. As pessoas com estas histórias têm de se apresentar e ser ouvidas para que estas histórias mudem. A violência sexual não é um mito, mas as histórias que foram criadas em resposta a ela mudaram invariavelmente a paisagem da comunidade de ajuda profissional. Como tal, os profissionais de ajuda necessitam de conhecimentos multiculturais para ajudarem as pessoas envolvidas em situações de violência sexual a serem novamente autoras das suas histórias.
