Graham Rendoth is an artist, designer and illustrator. His first book of drawings was As A Boy, published in 1984. Other books have been published commercially and as limited editions, and his work has appeared in many publications. Born in the Australian rural town of Tamworth, Graham grew up in the suburbs of Sydney. He has a BA Design from Sydney College of the Arts. He is founder of the creative consultancy, Reno Design. The 114 drawings in Face Book reveal past lives and new beginnings, light and dark thoughts, dreams too, and nightmares. Some of Graham Rendoth’s intriguing faces are finely detailed, while others are made with just a few considered marks, but all focus on trapping a single idea or situation.Like real people, like real faces, most are a mystery to me. If done by someone else I would expect them to have come out of dreams - but they didn’t, not really. They usually grow out of a dreamstate though, some time after I notice a person or a thing, or I’ve been emotionally detached in a place or in a time of repose, and then the drawing starts. 'Faces are the most interesting things we see; other people fascinate me, and the most interesting aspect of other people - the point where we go inside them - is the face. It tells all.'- DAVID HOCKNEY 3

    Graham Rendoth
From 1975 for about 200 days each year over four years Graham Rendoth travelled one-and-a-half hours each way by train and bus from my Wiley Park home in Sydney’s south-west to study at Randwick Technical College and later to Sydney College of the Arts in Balmain. That was a lot of travel, with time to think about college projects, read, and to look at people. For decades as a ...

Bent is a graphic collection by Graham Rendoth that includes 97 pen and digital images that explore notions of line, space and mass. The coathanger drawings evolved from long-lost works made from wire coathangers that came from his mother’s dry-cleaning shop. His cloud-like popcorns are the only evidence that the corns were ever popped, as each buttery piece was devoured immedi...

  • Talking To A Stranger
    Graham Rendoth
As a young illustrator and visual artist, Graham Rendoth published ‘As a Boy’. That book was an opportunity to showcase editorial and personal works done during and immediately after college. It was also an interesting reflection of how artists, movements and culture had formed his work — notably Roland Topor, Francisco Goya, surrealism, theatre, music, television, religion and...
