La maîtrise de la technologie nationale pour la séparation des éléments de terres rares ainsi que les importantes réserves de ces minerais sur le territoire brésilien ont motivé l’étude d’écrans scintillants convertisseurs de neutrons nationaux, utilisant le mélange granulaire Gd2O3-ZnS:Ag. Trois méthodologies ont été utilisées pour la fabrication de ces écrans, à savoir : projection à l’aide d’un pistolet à air comprimé sur une feuille de cellulose de type CG3460-3M ; fusion du mélange granulaire Gd2O3-ZnS:Ag avec de l’EVA dans une chambre de mélange et dépôt du mélange granulaire sur le substrat en EVA. Un flux de l’ordre de 4,46x105 neutrons thermiques/cm2.s, provenant du canal d’irradiation J-9 du réacteur Argonauta/IEN/CNEN, a été utilisé.
