A maior parte das mulheres pode manter em segredo as relações abusivas, o que pode resultar de um medo profundo de sofrer mais abusos ou de ser mal visto por uma comunidade que subscreve tabus sociais que proíbem que se fale ou mesmo que se insinue a realidade dos incidentes de violência doméstica. Este estudo fenomenológico investiga as experiências reais de mulheres que permanecem em relações fisicamente abusivas.
