Este estudo centra-se no processo de adaptação cultural dos imigrantes somalis que chegaram à grande Boston MA entre 2000 e 2009. As dificuldades que enfrentam no acesso aos cuidados de saúde nos Estados Unidos e as oportunidades de educação permitem-lhes assimilar e adotar mais facilmente este novo ambiente. Este estudo reconhece a necessidade de focar certas questões, tais como: a melhoria do nível profissional dos intérpretes médicos, proporcionando formação e acesso à informação médica às comunidades locais. Este estudo procurou determinar se os imigrantes somalis ainda podem preservar e manter a sua cultura na América, que parece tão distante do que conhecem do seu novo ambiente, a fim de dar à próxima geração uma oportunidade de uma vida melhor.
