HER MOTHER SAID SHE WOULD BE RIGHT BACK...A little girl sits on a bench near Lake Ontario waiting for her mother to return. She doesn’t.A teenage boy rescues her from an inquisitive stranger and offers to take her home. When they arrive, the house is in darkness. No sign of her mother. He takes her to the place he shares with his elderly foster parents. His foster parents, friends of the local police sergeant, report the incident to him.An investigation of the child’s home reveals a body. Not the child’s mother.Across the street a nosy neighbour is watching. Perhaps she saw something? As the investigation unfolds, nothing stays buried. Not the secrets in the walls. Nor the child’s terrifying nightmares. Nor the connection to the neighbour across the street. What was seen? Who was seen? And who is hiding pertinent information?A chilling portrait of obsessive lies and more lies, deeply rooted trauma, disguised memories, and the darkness that festers behind closed doors.
