This book examines the in-vitro effectiveness of selected antibiotics against bacterial isolates obtained from clinical samples collected at Tarhuna General Hospital and associated private clinics in Tarhuna, Libya. The study included 78 bacterial isolates from urine, blood, wound swabs, and respiratory samples. Bacterial identification was performed using standard microbiological methods, while antibiotic susceptibility was assessed using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. The findings demonstrate a high burden of antimicrobial resistance, particularly among Gram-negative pathogens, including Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The study also highlights the susceptibility of selected pathogens to specific antibiotics and emphasizes the importance of routine antimicrobial susceptibility testing, localized surveillance, and antimicrobial stewardship to support rational antibiotic use and improve patient outcomes.
