Le nombre d’or, une formule mathématique utilisée pour définir l’harmonie des proportions géométriques, est observé dans la nature, dans les produits manufacturés et dans le corps humain, étant présent dans presque tout ce qui est considéré comme harmonieux et en équilibre fonctionnel. L’existence de ce rapport, appelé phi, qui correspond au nombre 1,618, est encore considérée comme un mystère. En dentisterie, il se retrouve dans l’esthétique du sourire, du visage et des traits sur les radiographies, comme les téléradiographies de la tête en position latérale. L’objectif de cette étude scientifique était de trouver cette proportion dans les radiographies céphalométriques - selon les résultats obtenus par Ricketts (1981) - de patients d’Amazonas âgés de 15 à 45 ans avec une occlusion normale.
