Le maintien de l’angiogenèse est l’une des caractéristiques du cancer, qui assure l’apport de nutriments et d’oxygène à la tumeur solide et permet également aux cellules cancéreuses de sécréter leurs déchets toxiques et de migrer vers d’autres sites. Cela indique que le ciblage et l’inhibition du processus d’angiogenèse pourraient constituer une stratégie valable pour la prévention et le traitement du cancer. Les cellules cancéreuses étant caractérisées par leur résistance à la mort cellulaire, l’induction sélective de l’apoptose pourrait constituer une approche prometteuse pour le traitement du cancer. Il était donc intéressant de découvrir l’activité potentielle des huiles essentielles d’Aquilaria crassna et le mécanisme sous-jacent de l’action du β-caryophyllène, qui est à l’origine de ses propriétés anticancéreuses.
