Ethnoarchäologie ist eine Kombination aus archäologischer und ethnographischer Forschung. Das Mahlen von Steinen ist auch ein Spiegel zur Rekonstruktion der antiken Lebensmittelverarbeitungstechnologie. Deshalb hat der Autor dieses Buches versucht, die antike Technologie der Lebensmittelverarbeitung durch ethnographische Studien zu untersuchen. Die Tradition der Verwendung von Mahlsteinen in Simada, Süd-Gondar, Nordwest-Äthiopien wird immer noch praktiziert. Verschiedene Archäologen glauben, dass diese Tradition bis in die Jungsteinzeit zurückreicht. Der Autor vertrat daher die Ansicht, dass die Region eine lange Tradition der Verwendung von Mahlsteinen als Technologie zur Lebensmittelverarbeitung bis heute hat.
