Ce livre traite du lien entre l’éthique et la cybernétique à travers l’exemple de Heinz von Förster. La cybernétique s’est imposée comme une nouvelle science au milieu du siècle dernier. À l’origine, il s’agissait d’une science technologique issue de la théorie de l’information. Ce nouveau domaine de recherche a conduit de la théorie de l’information à l’intelligence artificielle, tout en restant marqué par une philosophie téléologique. Presque parallèlement, un courant éthique s’est développé, appelé cybernétique de second ordre. Son principal représentant était Heinz von Förster. Sa grande contribution philosophique est la cybernétique éthique, qui repose sur les principes de la notion de liberté.
