A degradação térmica de resíduos plásticos numa atmosfera inerte é considerada um método eficiente de recuperação de resíduos, uma vez que este processo é capaz de converter resíduos plásticos em hidrocarbonetos que podem ser utilizados como combustíveis ou como fonte de produtos químicos. Neste trabalho, o polietileno de baixa densidade (LDPE) foi escolhido como o material para o processo de pirólise, caracterizado por MIF, DSC e ATG, e um reactor semi-fechado simples foi construído e utilizado para a pirólise a uma temperatura superior a 350C. A análise FTIR do óleo pirolítico resultante da pirólise do PEBD mostra a existência de hidrocarbonetos na forma de alcanos e alcenos. A simulação do processo de degradação térmica dos resíduos plásticos com o simulador HYSYS mostra que os produtos obtidos podem ser separados em diferentes fracções (LPG, NAPHTAS, KEROSENE, HGO).
