Em 25 de Setembro de 2015, os líderes mundiais adoptaram 17 Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) e 169 metas. A 12 de Dezembro de 2015, adoptaram o Acordo de Paris. Este documento visa ajudar todos os governos, o sector privado, a sociedade civil e o meio académico a planearem melhor a implementação dos ODS de uma forma mais simples e mais eficaz. De facto, após os Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio (2000-2015) determinados pelos líderes mundiais, os Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) vieram das Nações Unidas, da sociedade civil e de outras partes interessadas antes de serem adoptados pelos líderes mundiais para (2015-2030). Os relatórios nacionais voluntários de 2016-2018 mostram que a implementação das ODS é difícil para os governos, mas é muito fácil se estes tiverem feito as reformas necessárias através da criação de uma instituição nacional multi-stakeholder SDG, instituições subnacionais e centros municipais SDG sob a supervisão de comités municipais. A missão destes centros SDO será trabalhar horizontalmente com a população sob a liderança de um coordenador de centros que tem 3 departamentos: social, económico e ambiental.
