O Tráfego Médio Diário Anual (AADT) é um dado fundamental para muitas análises de transportes. Tradicionalmente, o AADT é estimado através de uma combinação de contagens de tráfego permanentes e temporárias. Uma vez que a recolha no terreno das contagens de tráfego é dispendiosa, esta é normalmente realizada apenas nas estradas principais, deixando assim a maioria das estradas locais sem qualquer informação sobre o AADT. No entanto, os AADTs das estradas locais são necessários para muitas aplicações. Nesta investigação, foi desenvolvido um novo método para estimar as AADT das estradas locais utilizando a modelação da procura de deslocações.
