Nella filosofia di Heidegger, il tema della morte è di fondamentale importanza, non solo nel contesto dell’analisi esistenziale, ma per la comprensione stessa dei modi di essere che l’uomo assume in relazione al mondo e a se stesso. In Essere e tempo, Heidegger richiama l’attenzione sul fatto che il significato che la morte ha nella nostra vita non si esaurisce con la morte corporea. Finché rimaniamo intrappolati nell’interpretazione della morte come evento puramente biologico, non ci rendiamo conto che essa ci dice qualcosa sulla nostra esistenza, sul modo in cui comprendiamo noi stessi e ci comportiamo nelle nostre relazioni. In questa prospettiva, l’obiettivo centrale di questo libro è presentare un tentativo di delucidazione del significato ontologico attribuito da Heidegger all’essere-per-la-morte, giustificando che un’adeguata comprensione del fenomeno della morte permette di individuare nella finitudine temporale del Dasein l’apertura a una dimensione etica della filosofia heideggeriana.
