Questa autoetnografia presenta l’esperienza di essere emarginati fino a diventare agenti di cambiamento. Gli argomenti sono presentati sotto forma di vignette autoetnografiche. Le vignette sono analizzate criticamente da molteplici prospettive, per fornire i ricchi punti di contatto multidimensionali che descrivono le nostre vite. Queste prospettive includono quella di Helm (1990) sull’identità razziale, quella di Bussey e Bandura (1999) sull’identificazione di genere nello sviluppo e le idee di Jones (2012) per resistere all’omofobia nelle scuole. L’alterità (Caballero, 2009; Dwyer & Buckle, 2009) è considerata un fenomeno razziale, religioso, di genere e culturale. L’emigrazione viene discussa anche dal punto di vista dell’oppressione interiorizzata (Williams, 2012). Inoltre, vengono esplorati argomenti relativi alla comunità LGBT (Butler, 1993; Culler, 2007; Duke, 2008).
