Foi a partir destes grandes pensadores que a epistemologia se espalhou por outros cantos do mundo. Em África, só com a chegada dos colonialistas e dos missionários é que a noção de epistemologia começou a ser discutida entre africanos e não africanos. No entanto, verificou-se que se pensava que os africanos não possuíam conceitos epistemológicos devido à falta de provas escritas. É por esta razão que este livro faz uma comparação entre a noção ocidental de epistemologia e a noção africana de epistemologia, a fim de mostrar as suas semelhanças e diferenças. Este livro mostra-nos o caminho para uma reflexão mais crítica sobre a noção africana de epistemologia.
