Depuis que le média magazine a été segmenté en public masculin et féminin, nous avons vu des formules éditoriales adaptées à des contextes et à des langages spécifiques. Au XXIe siècle, par exemple, nous trouvons les titres Alfa et Lola Magazine, dont les couvertures présentent une iconographie prédominante qui nous rappelle l’appropriation du portrait en buste en tant que langage caractéristique de ce style de magazine. Partant de l’hypothèse que la tête est une sorte de médiateur entre les techniques et les styles artistiques, impliqué dans les formes et les processus de représentation de la figure humaine, nous nous appuierons sur une étude de l’art funéraire égyptien, en passant par la Renaissance au XVe siècle, l’invention de la photographie et l’intensification de la production industrielle du XXe au XXIe siècle, combinée à une intention d’investigation sur les adaptations du langage du portrait et sa perpétuation au cours de l’histoire. Si nous considérons la couverture de magazine comme l’un des genres de ce langage, nous trouverons un aspect qui la considère au-delà du portrait commercial. Plus qu’un simple artefact industriel, la couverture de magazine devient un espace de lecture et de relecture.
