Los salmos son oración oficial de judíos y cristianos, compuestos durante un milenio por levitas de Sion (Jerusalén) y atribuidos a David. En hebreo se llaman tehilim y tefilim, alabanzas, oraciones, cantos de (para) Dios, por el mundo y los hombres. Los griegos los llamaron Salmos (Psalmoi), porque se cantaban con música de salterio (cítara, harpa). En momentos solemnes sonaban trompetas. En trances alegres se bailaban con tamboril y pandereta; en momentos tristes con viola antigua y voz quebrada Todos eran música hecha palabra, palabra hecha música.Hay salmos de amantes (shirim) y sabios (maskilim), lamentos, bendiciones, maldiciones, danzas de guerra, juego y perdón, elegías, ahogos, sollozos siempre de vida ante Dios. San Pablo, poco cantarín, pedía que llevemos cada uno a la misa o plegaria común un salmo nuestro o de la Biblia, que no cantemos siempre el mismo (1 Cor 14,26). Será tiempo de empezar.
